The tax would bring in at most several thousand dollars of revenue (I seriously doubt many buskers would comply). These people simply don't make enough money to pay taxes on their profits. The Sconzhttp://www.thesconz.wordpress.comnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5044318737317983833.post-75209573847699085642009-06-10T21:30:24.992-05:002009-06-10T21:30:24.992-05:00I think the most money I ever pulled in with my ba...I think the most money I ever pulled in with my band at the farmer's market got us all about ten bucks each.
The idea of charging ten bucks a day to play means a lot of folks will be literally paying to play.elliehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16525818580068532479noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5044318737317983833.post-85949843247408791452009-06-08T03:24:19.672-05:002009-06-08T03:24:19.672-05:00"There are also rules governing musicians wis..."There are also rules governing musicians wishing to use public electricity--ie: be amplified on the street--and those who want to sell anything.'

A Los Angeles regulation barring sales, when applied to musicians selling CDs of their own material, was found unconstitutional by the 9th federal circuit in PERRY v LAPD (No. 9655545) http://laws.findlaw.com/9th/9655545.html

(litigated by my old pal, and UW Law grad Jim Fosbinder)

"The items sold here include music, buttons, and bumperstickers bearing political, religious, and ideological messages. These are expressive items, and they do not lose their consti-tutional protection simply because they are sold rather thangiven away. U2 were the Bonzo Brothers and played outside a Lens Crafters type store called Bono Vox and it was while street performing that they were spotted by record execs.
