Start spreading the news

It's time to ante up and make it known that we want a smoke-free Wisconsin! I just had the following information sent to me and thought it was worth spreading the word:

+ A public hearing will be held on the Assembly version of our bill [AB834] this Wednesday Feb 27th at 12pm in Rm 417 North of the State Capitol. Free lunch will be provided. RSVP here (http://wisconsin.grassroots.com/CIA/RSVP022208). The Senate hearing earlier this year went late into evening, so even if you work during the day, consider coming later.

+ Lance Armstrong will visit our rally at the State Capitol on March 4th. Registration and free lunch from 10:30-12, rally at 12-1, and meetings with your legislators from 1-3. Free buses will depart from the following locations: Eau Claire, La Crosse, Wausau, Green Bay, and Milwaukee. RSVP here (http://wisconsin.grassroots.com/CIA/RSVP021408).
If this is an issue you feel at all strongly about, I urge you to come out and make your voices heard. Don't let Breske and the Tavern League's misinformation and maneuvering win.

Where in the World is Jessica McBride?

What we have here is truly, “Failure to Communicate”

She seems to have gone the way of fellow right wing activist mover and shaker Todd Robert Murphy.

Remember Todd (my mother named me Todd Robert)?

Kingmaker, avid fund raiser for political insiders, panel member on the Belling Sunday morning show, a non indicted associate of many involved in the Bielinski “affair.” Some believe he was NGRR (Not Guilty by Reason of being Republican).

But back to Ms. McBride. I wonder what reason she gives the fertile young minds she fills with unbiased knowledge for her sudden cessation of blogging?

This, an election year, ripe with topics for columns full of her wit, wisdom, wishing, wondering and whitewashing but little from the Mistress of Spin but an occasional Henny Youngman one- liner accompanied by a link to someone else’s work.

John McCain goes from impossible recipient of the Republican nomination to the man that lost to the first African American President of the United States and Ms. McBride is not to be heard?

No comment on voter fraud/voter ID, Walker vs. Taylor or Gableman vs. Butler from the Mistress of Spin?

Truly, the silence IS deafening.

Frankly, I could care less about what McBride is getting up to these days. Maybe she finally realized what most of us concluded long ago, that her blog was painfully inane, and gave up the ghost on it. One can hope, anyway.

It's ironic that what used to a backward place like Arkansas -- where we live -- can be more progressive about some things than Wisconsin. Smoking in the workplace is a non-issue here -- because there is none and hasn't been for at least two years.

It's somewhat jolting to go into a restaurant in another state and be asked, "Smoking or non-smoking." It didn't happen when we visited Wisconsin in December, but we didn't eat out on that trip from what I can recall, except at the food-court in one of the malls.

Yeah, our progressive roots have been getting a little trampled on lately. It's beginning to turn our state motto--"Forward!"--into a joke.

Good on Arkansas, though. By the by, the handful of times I've visited your state, I was pleasantly surprised to find it beautiful.

My wife is originally from Wisconsin She grew up over north of Manitowoc. I met her at a combination YWCA and USO sponsored dance in 1972 and seven weeks after that took her away from Wisconsin. In the 36 years since we had only been back to Wisconsin once as all of her immediate family had moved to Arkansas. However, our daughter, son-in-law and grandkids moved to DeForest a year ago and we've been to Wisconsin twice since then and will be going there at least once a year for the foreseeable future. At some point, I'll be blog-posting some images that I took at the University of Wisconsin last June on the last day of the Jazz fest.
